What is FMS Calculator?
FMS Calculator is a program designed for Windows 98 / NT4 / 2000 / XP. It simplifies calculating a measuring point for tension measuring (e.g. determination of appropriate force sensors).

Restrictions
There are to many factors that have to be taken into consideration if all possible configurations have to be covered. Therefore if you have an unusual configuration, the program may tell you that everything is all right while there still is a problem. Any use of FMS Calculator is done at your own risk. If you would like to ensure that a particular force sensor is suitable for a given measuring point, please submit your drawing to FMS AG. We then check wheter your configuration is suitable for your problem or not.

Which languages are supported in FMS Calculator V2?
FMS Calculator supports English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Dutch and Svedish. The language may be switched at any time (menu Tools > Options > Language)

How can I calculate double range force sensors?
Enter the maximum AND the minimum material tension. Go to the optimisation step and choose the double range "LMGZ.D" sensor. Choose a type and control your configuration in the force chart.

Can I save calculations?
Yes. You can save your calculations in a database or in a file.

Can I share calculations with other users?
Yes. Use the same database or save your calculation in file and send this file via email.

Can I save drawings as PDF files?
Yes. Just print to Adobe Acrobat Distiller.

System requirements
In general, FMS Calculator runs on every Microsoft 32 Bit Operating System. Please note the following restrictions:
1) Windows 95
We do not support Windows 95 anymore. Nevertheless it should work if MS Office 2000 or higher is installed.
2) Windows NT 4 / 2000 / XP
You must login as "Administrator" or have administrator rights to install FMS Calculator. Close all programs before you start the setup! (Important: When you upgrade FMS Calculator V2, e.g. using the upgrade function of the program or downloading a newer version, make sure that all instances (windows) of FMS Calculator V2 are closed before the setup starts to install the new files!)

Upgrade from an earlier version of FMS Calculator
1) Upgrade from FMS Calculator V1.xx
You cannot upgrade from FMS Calculator V1.xx to FMS Calculator V2.xx. Consider these two major releases as two different programs. Most of the code of FMS Calculator V2 has been completely rewritten, the structure of the database and the file format are different. Therefore install FMS Calculator V2 like a different program. You can import your old calculations saved in the database using the import function (menu Tools -> Import database from Calculator V1) or open *.fms files that you have exported with FMS Calculator V1. A filter then converts the data for you.
If you later don't need FMS Calculator V1 anymore, deinstall it. However we suggest to leave FMS Calculator V1 on your computer untill you successfully imported all your old calculations that you want to keep (You cannot e.g. import calculations with old sensors that we don't offer anymore and therefore are not supported by the new FMS Calculator. However the rest of the calculation is imported and you can choose a new sensor).
2) Upgrade from FMS Calculator V2.xx
The upgrade is very easy. Just go through the setup and your FMS Calculator V2 is upgraded. To keep your Calculator up-to-date, we have included a new update function (menu Tools -> Download updates). The update function automatically downloads the setup of the new FMS Calculator V2, ends the program and starts the setup.
Important: When you upgrade FMS Calculator V2, e.g. using the upgrade function of the program or downloading a newer version, make sure that all instances (windows) of FMS Calculator V2 are closed before the setup starts to install the new files!

Which Version of FMS Calculator is running on my computer?
The current version number is shown in the info window (Menu "? -> Info").

Installation of FMS Calculator within a LAN
Install FMS Calculator on all clients. Use one of the clients to create a database on a server. Connect all other clients to this database.

Known Bugs
When using the upgrade function, FMS Calculator V2 does not close when the downloaded setup is started (on some machines running Windows XP). Solution until we fix the problem: Don't close the setup program. Wait 30 seconds. If the FMS Calculator still does not terminate, kill it with the task manager. Then continue with the setup.
