Conveyor belt scales for mobile crusher
Measure throughput and optimize performance
Conveyor belt scales play a key role in mobile crusher whenever material flow, throughput and plant utilization need to be continuously monitored. To achieve this, A. Betschart's Söhne AG from Brunnen relies on four FMS conveyor belt scales installed on a mobile GIPO P 131 mobile crusher.
The company specializes in contract crushing and clearing crusher blockages, processing a wide range of materials directly on construction sites and in gravel plants. With the new crushing system, the question of selecting the right belt scale solution quickly arose.
“When choosing a new crushing plant, one of the first questions is which belt scale to install,” explains Moritz Betschart of A. Betschart's Söhne AG. “We chose FMS belt scales and installed four of them right from the start.”
Full transparency across the entire material flow
The four belt scales were strategically installed at key points within the plant: on the banana conveyor, the crusher discharge conveyor, the underscreen conveyor and ahead of the pre-screening section. This gives the machine operator a complete overview of all material flows within the system at all times.
The solution is based on robust BMGZ041 series load cells, specifically designed for mobile and stationary conveyor systems operating in demanding environments. The fully sealed design with integrated non-contact speed measurement ensures high reliability and maintenance-free operation, even under harsh conditions in crushing applications.
For A. Betschart's Söhne AG, ease of use was particularly important. The BMGZ710 series electronics allow operators to view current throughput, daily totals and belt speed directly on mobile devices using the free FMS-beltSCALE app.
“One of the biggest advantages is that the operator can monitor the hourly throughput directly from a mobile phone, giving us an immediate picture of how the plant is performing,” says Moritz Betschart.
The data helps operators optimize plant settings and continuously adjust material feed rates.

Optimized coordination prevents screen overload
The powerful GIPO crushing plant operates with a motor output of 566 kilowatts. This creates a risk of screen overload if too much material is fed into the system. With the FMS belt scales, throughput can be continuously monitored.
“By monitoring the output on the crusher discharge conveyor, the operator can immediately see how much material the screen can handle and whether there’s still capacity to increase the feed rate.”
The precise measurement of material flow enables finer adjustment of the entire plant. This helps prevent overloads, improve efficiency and reduce downtime.
Robust technology for mobile applications
Compact dimensions and rugged construction are especially critical in mobile crushers and sorting plants. The FMS measuring rollers feature integrated force sensors directly on the measuring axis. Additional guides or sensitive lever systems are completely unnecessary. This keeps the systems compact, accurate, and resistant to dirt, vibration and mechanical stress.
The electronics were also specifically developed for demanding operating conditions. The rugged aluminum housing with IP65 protection and simple integration via Ethernet or optional PROFINET interfaces ensure reliable operation in mobile systems.
Easy commissioning, reliable operation
Another deciding factor was the straightforward installation of the systems. The belt scales were installed and commissioned entirely by the A. Betschart's Söhne AG team themselves.
We’ve been very satisfied with the FMS belt scales. The support has been excellent and we were able to install and commission all four systems ourselves quickly and easily.
The combination of simple technology, reliable performance, and practical operation left a lasting impression on A. Betschart's Söhne AG.
