FMS web guiding and tension control solutions for non-woven

European specialist for nanofiber technology selects FMS to supply solutions for web guiding and tension control.

Fatih Otomasyon, our Turkish partner has recently finalized a project to supply tension monitoring and web guiding equipment in Istanbul, Turkey.

When designing and building a machine for non-woven, you want to make sure that it provides high quality yields in term of product quality and productivity. Correct web tension and proper lateral alignment of the material are just two factors that will have major impact on both. Knowing about the importance of these key components, PART2B in Istanbul, Turkey was looking for adequate solutions in this area.

Machine Design

The actual machine incorporates a high voltage nozzle system to process melt blown and spun bond materials. Main goal of the machine was to increase the filtration efficiency against viruses. When the basic requirements of the machine were set, the team started to look for key suppliers. At this point Part2b contacted the tension control and web guiding specialist from Fatih Otomasyon.

Data Collection

When the responsible engineers of Part2b first contacted Fatih, the main process data and dimensions of the machine were collected. Next to robust and precise solutions, cost-efficiency was an important factor for the customer. Therefore, Fatih proposed the compact A-series force sensors in combination with EMGZ310.ComACT amplifiers. For the rewinding section, Fatih proposed the robust linear actuator of the BKS.D.3 series in combination with the BKS309 web guiding controller and a US01 ultrasonic material sensor.

Quick Project Realization

After a final check of the key components, we could confirm the sizing and received the order for the tension monitoring and web guiding systems. Fatihs proposal to use measuring amplifiers with Bluetooth connectivity was highly appreciated for easy start-up. This would ease the start-up for the engineers and allow the operator to monitor the web tension remotely on their mobile devices. Installation and start-up on-site were conducted be the customer. After the calibration of all measuring points and the initial set up the web guide, the machine was ready to be shipped to the end customer.

How is it done? Measuring amplifiers with Bluetooth (BT) connectivity.

  • Our product development is largely geared towards market requirements. The wishes of many customers have led to ever more compact devices. With ever smaller dimensions, however, we were forced to make certain compromises in terms of user-friendliness. In particular, the space available for the display and buttons became smaller and smaller. This is not important for the actual operation of the system. However, the commissioning of a measuring point became increasingly difficult due to poor visibility and cumbersome operation in dark, crammed control cabinets. We developed the FMS-comACT app to deal with this situation. In addition to optimized operation, system operators and service technicians also have other functions at their disposal.
